Kizzy Augustin

Kizzy is an Equity Partner at Mishcon De Reya, and head of their Health & Safety / Criminal Regulatory Team. She has significant experience in defending companies and senior directors and employees in corporate manslaughter and serious fire / health and safety prosecutions and has a particular interest in the law relating to directors’ health and safety duties within the construction, care homes, environmental, manufacturing, fire, rail and retail industries. She provides both contentious, strategic advice in response to an actual incident and represents companies and individuals involved in inquests and public inquiries (usually following a workplace incident), as well as preventative consultancy advice in relation to corporate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current safety legislation. She often provides keynote speeches for industry groups, as well as training / briefings for Boards and senior leadership teams in order to help them mitigate legal risk and manage their reputational risk profile. This led to the development of her Non-Executive Director career, which has extended to her appointment to 4 organisations in a Trustee or Non-Exec role. She has been described as a Leading Individual in the Legal 500 2024/5 and was voted one of the 15 most influential H&S professionals by SHP, the UK’s leading H&S publication. As well as a truly demanding but enjoyable day job, Kizzy is a staunch campaigner for true equality and diversity in the law. She is a professional mentor for young Black or other ethnic minority students and provides work experience opportunities for those that are interested in the legal profession – working with organisations such as 10,000 Black Interns, Rare Recruitment and the Stephen James Partnership. She is the current Chair of the Mishcon De Reya Race Equity Committee and is part of the EDI Board. She is an advocate for attracting more black and ethnic minority candidates to the profession, particularly in the City law firms, and recognises the struggles that still exist in the UK to obtain equality and equity. As a result, she dedicates much of her time to taking part in career fairs and networking events to encourage students and junior lawyers to apply for City law positions. Kizzy is also a champion for the retention of women in senior positions in the workplace, which involves challenging traditional ways of thinking, particularly from an intersectional (race and gender) viewpoint – embracing flexible and agile working, diverse recruitment, innovation, transparency and honesty at a senior level.

Ugo Ojike

I am an avid Arsenal fan, sister, wife, and mother to three young men, aged 26-15 years, yep, I can see the cavernous gap myself, so please, no judgement! Born in Ealing, I grew up in Tottenham, North London, the daughter of Nigerian parents. Perhaps one of the most unusual things about my career is that I’ve been at the same company for over 25 years! I feel have been on quite a scenic journey in my time at Accenture starting in Consulting and now working in Legal, heading up Contract Management for the UK, Ireland &Africa (UKIA). The company is constantly changing and re-inventing which keeps the journey interesting and the environment exciting!

Along the way, I’ve picked up a couple of additional roles within Accenture as it continues to take steps to create an inclusive and equitable culture, including co-sponsoring our Afro-Caribbean network, Ethnicity Sponsor on our UKIA executive team and global co-sponsor for our Evolve (Speak up) Program.
